SIP Calculator

Last updated · September 2026

A Systematic Investment Plan, or SIP, lets you invest a fixed amount in a mutual fund every month instead of putting in a lump sum at once. Because each instalment buys units at that month’s price, a SIP averages out your purchase cost across market ups and downs, which is one reason it has become the default way most Indian retail investors build long-term equity exposure.

This SIP calculator projects how a monthly investment can grow using the standard compound-growth formula for a series of equal instalments. Move the sliders for monthly amount, expected annual return and investment period to instantly see your total invested amount, the estimated returns, and the projected maturity value.

SIP Calculator

Estimate the future value of your monthly mutual fund SIP.

Assumes constant monthly return and does not account for exit load, taxes or expense ratio. Actual mutual fund returns vary and are not guaranteed.

How SIP returns are calculated

The calculator uses the future value of an annuity formula: FV = P × [((1+r)^n − 1) / r] × (1+r), where P is the monthly instalment, r is the monthly rate of return (annual return divided by 12 and by 100), and n is the total number of instalments. This assumes the return compounds monthly and stays constant, which is a simplification — real markets move up and down, so actual returns will differ from this straight-line projection.

Tips for using this SIP calculator

Use a conservative return assumption (10–12% for large-cap or index funds, higher only if you understand the additional risk in mid- or small-cap categories) rather than the best historical year you can find. Running the numbers for a few different tenures also shows how much of the final corpus in a long SIP comes from compounding in the later years, which is why starting early matters more than trying to time the market.

Frequently asked questions

Is the SIP calculator result guaranteed?

No. Mutual fund returns are market-linked and not guaranteed. This tool shows a projection based on the constant annual return you enter; actual returns will vary year to year.

Does this include expense ratio and exit load?

No, the calculation is on a gross assumed return. Expense ratio, exit load and taxes on redemption will reduce your actual take-home returns.

What is a good expected return to assume for equity SIPs?

Most planners use 10-12% per annum for diversified equity mutual funds as a long-term, post-cost planning assumption, though actual returns can be higher or lower in any given period.

Can I increase my SIP amount every year?

Yes, that’s called a step-up SIP. Use our Step-up SIP Calculator to see how annual increases affect your final corpus.
